Momday, January 14 marked the start of SHOT Show 2013 for the 3-D House of Airsoft and hundreds of media attendees, as the busses rolled out of the Las Vegas Strip and out to the Boulder City’s Pistol and Rifle Range for MEDIA DAY AT THE RANGE!
This year’s event was a first for THUMPY, as we’ve attended 2 prior SHOT Show’s, but never been able to hit the range for a day of product demonstrations, hands on shooting with everything from airsoft guns from KWA to .50 caliber rifles, and everything in between. The only drawback? It was COLD with a capital BRRRRRR, with a brisk wind and below-freezing temps out in the beautiful desert terrain only slightly dampening spirits. Hey, we could have been working…but the range at home doesn’t hand out loaded magazines and free ammo and say…GOING HOT…for free!
Here’s a brief look at the excitement from MEDIA DAY…more coming here at the 3-D House of Airsoft on WordPress as SHOT Show gets underway on Tuesday and runs all week long!
Peter Ho of Spartan Imports responds exclusively to Thumpy’s Airsoft News about the shutdown of JAG Precision & Echo 1 USA’s display at SHOT Show 2012. Thumpy will have further updates on this breaking news here at the 3-D House of Airsoft and at our new SCOOP.IT Channel…LINK HERE

Here’s an OLD POST that somehow did NOT GET its day in the Sun, our appologies to ARCLIGHT, as he scoped out the “even-bigger-than-SHOT Show 2011″ Cyber-Cubicles at the IWA 2011 Show in Germany, and guess what? They actually didn’t do any interviews with him, either.
OK, well, Cybergun’s “hired gun” and IPSC World Champion Eric Grauffel did…so, sue me. He talked to me, along with “Mr. Inokatsu” and a bunch of Cybergun and Softair USA (Hi John!) higher-ups in Vegas back in January… they were just really, really camera shy around Thumpy. Wonder why?
I proved I’m a lovable little fuzzy bunch of BB Slingin’ warmth and personality. Even “they” admitted it. I just hate that I’m so far behind schedule that I don’t have Cyber-G’s SHOT Show video cut yet…and I have, like, 15 more to send you from the NAA Airsoft Expo…and they WILL GET DONE!
Our Good Friend Laura Evans, Marketing Coordinator for Crosman has posted an open letter to airsofters in California and across the USA on their corporate opposition to Senate Bill 798. Crosman and other airsoft companies have been attempting to defeat similar measures for several years in Cali…even though a major portion of their business is clear-plastic guns: they can see the dangers in failing to defeat this, for the safety of all citizens. The letter follows a bit of background info that puts SB 798 in a different light:
Although Crosman is home-based in New York State, one wonders what impact this proposed sham will have on all businesses that tie into airguns and airsoft…and what spin off effects on the economy far from California. Thumpy talked with Crosman’s Jim Masseth at the 2011 SHOT Show back in January, where a “Made in America” company explains some of their thoughts on the industry:
So, will SB 798 help or hurt business for Crosman? Doesn’t seem from Laura’s letter below that “BUSINESS” is on their mind at all…as everyone, including the California Legislature, should put the focus squarely on SAFETY:
Some of you may already be aware, but the State of California is prepared to vote on a new law that will affect the future of the airgun and airsoft industries. It could also jeopardize the safety of the public and especially, police officers.
See below for a link to the SB 798 proposed legislation.
California is planning to make it law that all airsoft guns and all BB guns must be brightly colored, so police can distinguish these guns from actual firearms. As most of you know, all airsoft guns sold in the USA already have a bright orange tip and many are clear.
Early on it was recognized the underlying issue is created by consumers who allow potentially dangerous situations to develop. A prime example is the December 2010 incident that apparently prompted SB 798. As reported in the Los Angeles Times, police wounded a teenager when he failed to comply with police commands to “surrender.” Instead, the young man produced an airsoft gun. Expectedly, a police officer feared for his and his partner’s safety. He fired his gun and wounded the young man. Noteworthy is that the young man’s two companions, who complied with the officers’ commands to drop their guns, were not injured.
SB 798 obviously presumes that a “bright pink” airsoft gun, for example, would distinguish it from a firearm, thus providing a police officer with an immediate sense of security that he was not being threatened with a firearm. That assumption, however, might prove deadly to the officers or innocent bystanders. There are firearms sold that are, indeed, bright pink and other bright colors. Coloring an airsoft gun bright pink, therefore, would not distinguish it from firearms. A law enforcement officer should and would never assume a pink or other colored gun is harmless. On the other hand, an orange muzzle on an airsoft gun does distinguish it from firearms.
This bill would require the appearance of airsoft guns to change, but this change would not clear up the confusion issue. To the contrary, it would likely have the opposite effect. The change in appearance would render it more similar in appearance to some firearms. It is the simple and effective placement of orange at the muzzle that distinguishes an airsoft gun from firearm. Furthermore, federal law preempts SB798, because the bill would ban the sale of traditional airguns.
Please click on the link below for more information. If you agree that this law is unnecessary, please fill out the form and join the petition today, before it’s too late.
Again…’latest info from our buddy Mark “Dr. Airsoft” Vaughn is that action on the bill has been delayed until June 28th, (INFO LINK HERE) so there is plenty of time for you to pick up a phone, log in to your e-mail, Tweet, Facebook and IM your friends and foes on the House Floor and in California as a whole…. and share Crosman’s message along with your own.
NOW, TODAY FOR THE BIG NEWS….CYBERGUN ANNOUNCES THE TERMS OF A PROPOSED ACQUISITION OF I2G, INTERACTIVE GAMES GROUP….
CYBERGUN WATCH is back… with HUGE NEWS that Cyber-G is setting terms for their next major expansion, moving into the world of VIDEO GAMES, themed and tied to their portfolio of Airsoft Guns, gear and accessories.
At a press conference with business media members in Paris on 28 February 2011, (reported HERE and HERE) CYBERGUN announced terms of an on-going negotiation to purchase I2G, Interactive Games Group, described as an “executive” company headed by former Atari Interactive Chief Exective Officer Frederic Chesnais, and formed around a corporate strategy, much as CYBER-G was, of leverage of intellectual property rights in the convergence of real property (ie: CYBERGUN’s Product physical airsoft and other “lines”) and the digital world (Video games and entertainment products) “coordinated” by I2G….according to I2G’s Website, partners in game production include Atari (LINK), Interplay (LINK) producers of the “Fallout” games, Southpeak Games (LINK), 3-G Studios (LINK), Collision Studios (LINK), and others….
A DEAL VALUED AT 16.8 MILLION EUROS!
So, in today’s economy, What does 16.8 Million Euros get you?
Well, apparently I2g has already negotiated rights with Gene “KISS” my “FAMILY JEWELS” Simmons (WEBSITE HERE) for video game-related projects….
AND, Add Jillian Michaels Athletics to the proposed CYBER-G Stable, too. (WEBSITE HERE) (And, while you are at it, insert your own “BIGGEST LOSER” punchline here, if you must….we’ll wait till you finish….OK.) And, you could even add on to the “Double D’s” jokes from Jillian’s “other” new partner, Go Daddy…which means she may even be tempted to wear a 6 “M-M” BB or two in future commercial endorsements, perhaps along with former MTV-babe Daisy Fuentes (LINK HERE, to her SEGA game title), also developing exercise/fitness related video products via I2G.
THUMPY’S BACKGROUND: This was not an un-predicted move by Cybergun, as we heard directly from Cybergun representatives, up to and including CEO Jerome Marsac, who revealed at the SHOT Show 2011 that they would be producing/distributing a new line of BLACKWATER USA-trademarked Airsoft guns and gear, as seen in Thumpy’s photos from the Cybergun/Palco/Softair USA display hub.
We will have expanded details, and further announcements on our query to CYBERGUN HQ for their direct input on this breaking story….as it develops!
